Being part of our communities is an important part of well-being. Learn practical skills as well as developing an appreciation for our communities and an empowering sense of civic responsibility.
Mapping My Community looks at community through maps and locations, identifying familiar and significant places and people familiar to young children. Each double-page spread can be used as a discussion starter allowing for the gradual understanding of what community is and what maps represent.
The book can be used as a basis for the development of simple spatial awareness activities like mapping the classroom or playground or a treasure hunt. Building vocabulary will assist in mathematics, geography, and history in later years.
